A Great Sunday of Wet Felting – Creativity and Colour in Yorkshire
Sunday 16th March brought a wonderful gathering of creativity and camaraderie as five lovely ladies joined me for a half-day wet felting workshop. It was a fully booked session, and all the ladies got on so well!
A Yorkshire Welcome
There’s something about the Yorkshire spirit that lends itself to crafting—perhaps it’s the appreciation for tradition, the love of working with our hands, or just the joy of good company and a cuppa. As the workshop began, everyone settled in with a drink and a chat, sharing what had drawn them to wet felting. Some were complete beginners, others had dabbled before, but all were eager to create something special.
The Magic of Wet Felting
With a rainbow of soft, rich wool in front of them, each participant set to work designing their felt picture. Inspiration came from all sorts of places—rolling countryside, wild moorland, pictures they had found and of course my file of inspiration.
Wet felting is a tactile and absorbing process, layering and blending the fibres. For anyone who doesn’t feel they’re very ‘arty’ the process is ideal as you can add, take off and move the wool around, gently coaxing it into shape. Once satisfied with their design, water and soap is added then plenty of rolling. As the wool transformed into material under their hands, the excitement grew. Colours merged beautifully, textures appeared, and the pieces began to take on a life of their own.
A Splash of Colour and Creativity
By the end of the session, we had five stunning felted artworks, not all finished as some wanted to embellish with needle felting. Each one was different—bold, delicate, striking, and full of personality. It’s always a joy to see how the same materials can be used in such unique ways, and this workshop was no exception.
As the final pieces were admired, there were plenty of smiles and a real sense of achievement. Wet felting is one of those crafts that offers immediate satisfaction—you walk away with something tangible, something you’ve made with your own two hands.
A Perfect Yorkshire Sunday
Whether they continue felting at home or simply take away a happy memory, I hope each of the ladies left feeling inspired and proud of their work.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined me—it was a lovely morning, full of warmth and creativity.
If you fancy having a go yourself, keep an eye out for upcoming workshops. You never know what masterpiece you might create!!
